Environmental Policy

Summary

We recognise the importance of the environment both where we live and further afield, after all it is one of the key reasons why we have the visitors we do. Our aim is to balance the needs of our own business and those of our guests against our desire to protect our natural surroundings. In short we believe in identifying environmental issues and acting responsibly whilst running the Camilla House.

In order to help maintain and enhance our 'Environmental Policy' the Camilla House is involved with the local Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Project (known as the CoaST Project), the Future Footprints Campaign, the national Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) and the national Hospitable Climates Campaign managed by the Hotel & Catering International Management Association (HCIMA).

We are committed to ensuring that environmental best practice is fully implemented throughout our own operations, processes and activities. In order to monitor progress, and make sure we do what we set out to do, a framework has been adopted (if you really want to know what goes on then read through the following) -

The Camilla House undertakes to:

  • Operate managerial and operational systems which are environmentally friendly or, minimally, environmentally neutral
  • Monitor and evaluate the environmental impact of all practices and processes and constantly seek improvement
  • Wherever possible, conduct an environmental risk assessment when considering new operations
  • Consider the environmental impact of the life cycle and ultimate disposal of any end/by product and associated waste
  • Expect similar environmental standards from third parties associated with its activities
  • Minimise the use of all materials, supplies and energy
  • Minimise waste production in all activities with the ultimate aim of eliminating waste wherever possible
  • Enable and encourage employees to act positively for the environment in every task undertaken
  • Work with local communities, promoting and responding to environmental issues and concerns
  • Include environmental and ethical issues within investment and business policy decisions.

A full policy expanding upon the summary shown here is available for inspection by guests at the Camilla House (but then again it is probably easier to say we are trying to do our bit!).
