Attractions - Gardens

One of the many exciting aspects of visiting Cornwall is to see the variety of gardens that are open to the public and observe how they change throughout the seasons. The mild climate provides a fantastic environment for many plants that would not normally be seen outside of their natural habitat.

Morrab Gardens Penzance

To help guests staying at the Camilla House the following is a list of some of the gardens that can be visited - advice is always on hand from Susan and Simon as to the details of visiting and other options available.

Local Gardens

Morrab Gardens - Penzance's own sub-tropical gardens are located within 500m of the Camilla House.

Trewidden Garden - Penzance outskirts - a beautiful display of camellias, magnolias, rhododendrons and tree ferns.

Trereife - Penzance outskirts - classic house set in wonderful gardens with woodland walk and views of Mount's Bay.

Trengwainton - Penzance outskirts - woodland garden with walled gardens holding many surprises.

Trewoofe House Garden – Lamorna, near Penzance – a small but attractive garden, limited opening times – please check the Camilla House.

Chygurno - Lamorna, near Penzance - dramatic cliff edge garden overlooking Lamorna cove - limited opening times.

St.Michael's Mount - Marazion - nestling on terraces around the magical St.Michael's Mount and providing an excellent day out for lovers of unique maritime and sub-tropical plants.

Hardy Exotics - Whitecross (on A30 outside of Penzance) - unusual garden nursery offering an exotic selection of plants for your own garden.

Godolphin House & Gardens - between Penzance & Helston - wonderful house and restored gardens.

Trevarno Estate Gardens - Crowntown, nr Helston - beautiful Victorian / Georgian gardens with bonus of Britain's biggest collection of gardening antiques in purpose built museum.

Further away (but well worth the journey!)

Tresco Abbey Garden - The Isles of Scilly - a day trip option from the Camilla House to see an amazing world-wide collection of sub-tropical plants.

Eden Project - Near St.Austell - something very different in an old china-clay quarry - the world's largest greenhouses are a must see and can be accessed easily by public transport from Penzance.

Trelissick Garden - Near Truro - positioned by the river Fal, stunning collection of azaleas, camellias, magnolias, rhododendrons and tree ferns and a wonderful woodland walk along the river!

Trebah Garden - Near Falmouth - an exotic sub-tropical garden running down to the beautiful Helford River.

Lost Gardens of Heligan - Arguably leaving the best until last. Near St.Austell - 200 acres to explore - Victorian productive gardens and ancient woods make this a special place to visit.
