Camilla House - You May Not Like...
We have encountered many interesting & varied comments from guests
during our time here and it has become apparent that some may find
the following useful when making a decision on whether the Camilla House
is the right type of place for a stay in West Cornwall. After reviewing
what you may not like we would recommend you follow the link to what
we think you may like...
We are not a Hotel
The Camilla House is a' Guest House', not a 'Hotel'. There are plenty
of small accommodation providers who market themselves as and pretend
to be a hotel - we do not and would not want to mislead in such a way.
The difference is important as the size and facilities of the property,
high levels of attentive service and personal approach found
in a guest house such as the Camilla House are often different to that
encountered in a larger hotel. So if you would like to stay somewhere
where there is a lift (elevator), concierge, valet parking, 24hour
room service, in-house laundry, helicopter landing pad, thermal spa,
presidential suite and bureau de change then you may like to look somewhere
else.
We have dogs
We have two friendly West Highland Whites (Westies) known as Mac and
Tali, they do not
normally come into the public areas of the Camilla House but you may
encounter them outside.
We don't take pets
To cater for guests with allergies we don't accept pets, no matter how
well behaved they may be.
We have a 'Guest Charter'
Our environment in West Cornwall is precious and is hopefully one of
the reasons you are coming here. To help us work to preserve this we
encourage
& expect guests to follow our Guest Charter
that is designed to help get the most out of your stay. Please follow the
link on the right to see this.
We have limited car-parking
The Camilla House pre-dates cars by a long way and our parking arrangements
are limited. We can, at a push, squeeze seven smaller cars into our
car-park and we may ask you to leave
your car keys with us so we can move cars around if somebody at
the back wants to get out (and not disturb you in the process). Then
again, why come by car at all? More and more guests are finding out
how easy it is to get to Penzance by public transport and travel about
Cornwall once here.
Camilla House rooms
The Camilla House is a late Georgian townhouse, built in 1836 for a Master
Mariner, his family & their staff. It has been converted sympathetically
to provide 5 star
guest accommodation, but for some (particularly travelling with excess
luggage) the rooms are not large. Please check the accommodation sections
of this web site and if in doubt contact us for advice.
Quite quiet
We aim to provide a comfortable and relaxing environment for our guests.
While there are plenty of activities & excitement to be had outside
the Camilla House we find that maintaining a serene & tranquil style
works best.
Extra guests
We apparently have some extra guests who have been resident for about
150 years, they seem to only be met by certain people who are a bit
more perceptive and 'attuned' than the rest of us...
