About Us

We (Susan and Simon Chapman) purchased the Camilla House in 2002 and since then have been undertaking an extensive but sympathetic renovation project on this late Georgian townhouse.

The following are a few thoughts on what life at the Camilla House is all about:

The aim is to achieve a balanced blend between restoring the original style of the building and the provision of modern facilities - not just the standard offerings found in so many places but good quality furnishings in the individually decorated rooms and many new & exciting features including personalised activity planning, environmentally aware business practices, and free-to-guest broadband Internet access delivered over a wireless network - the intention is to develop accommodation for the discerning traveller.

The local environment is a particularly valuable asset and we run the Camilla House with a view to help preserve and enhance it as much as possible - please take the time to read through the Environment Policy and Guest Charter which can be accessed from the links on the right.

We have set out to create a comfortable environment where guests can base themselves either while experiencing the many attractions in Cornwall or simply escaping to a quiet haven. Using our detailed local knowledge and an attentive approach to customer service based on providing as much assistance as the guest requires, we are happy to plan out and organise individual itineraries that take in the best of what the real Cornwall has to offer.

We use local produce as much as possible and this can be seen in the award winning breakfasts which are designed to set guests up for the day. Upon return, we are on hand to discuss the day's finds and offer a relaxing drink in the comfortable bar area or guest lounge. We will happily recommend suitable places to eat depending on tastes or, with prior arrangement, provide evening meals at the Camilla House.

The Camilla House is inspected by the AA for quality assurance purposes and has been awarded the AA5 Star status as a Guest House in 2006 under the new and more detailed 'Common Standards for Accommodation' inspection & grading scheme . This has been further recognised with the highest accolade of 'Highly Commended' being given to the Camilla House for 2007 and 2008.
