Use the following sections to discover more about what we do and how we run the Camilla House in Penzance.
Not as 'formal' as it sounds, just some good old-fashioned common sense to help get the best out of your stay at the Camilla House.
Cornwall is our home and is enjoyed by many visitors who come to appreciate the unique environment and culture. We are committed to preserving and enhancing the positive experiences of visiting Cornwall through working with such organisations as the Green Tourism Business Scheme, Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Network, Cornwall Wildlife Trusts and the Future Footprints initiative – details of which you will see around the Camilla House. Some actions you can join in with to help us with this are:
Recycling - please recycle paper, bottles and tins as much as possible. We collect and recycle whatever we can from the running of the Camilla House and will happily add your contribution to the collection. Please leave whatever you have by your waste paper bin and we will take it away when servicing your room.
Energy / water efficiency – we try and minimise energy usage without sacrificing comfort or facilities. Most of this can be achieved by simply turning off electrical appliances when you are not using them, for example when you leave your room please switch out the lights and turn the TV off rather than keeping it on standby. It all makes a difference. Water is a precious resource in Cornwall and we have installed modern shower facilities because they use a lot less water than a bath.
Use public transport / cycle / walk - more and more guests come by train to Penzance and thankfully there is a reasonable public transport network to get you about Cornwall. We have timetables and suggested routes to enable you to move without the car, certainly in the summer you will probably arrive at your destination a lot quicker and less stressed if you go on the bus or train. If you are feeling energetic why not borrow one of the Camilla House loan bikes or talk to us about drop-off points for walking on the South West Coast Path?
Buy local - we source local products and services whenever
possible – Cornwall
has a tremendous wealth in local small producers of high quality food & drink
as well as those involved in arts & crafts,
we would encourage you to look out for this during your stay and give
it a go, you will be pleasantly surprised at the real taste of Cornwall.
As we are proud to be 'Corporate Sponsors' of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and we would encourage you to visit and support their reserves as much as possible during your stay in Cornwall.
Whether you are staying with us while on holiday or business we wish to ensure that you have access to all the information you need – please don’t hesitate to ask us a question – if we don’t know the answer we will do our best to find somebody who does.
